Why El Dorado wines are unique
The Mountain-Grown Difference
El Dorado’s mountain vineyards are on steep hillsides with warm summer days and cool nights. It’s an environment that gives wines luscious fruit, an alluring balance, refreshing vibrancy, and well-structured balance. As one of California’s oldest wine regions, El Dorado is incredibly diverse. You can see that in our three appellations – El Dorado, Fair Play, and Sierra Foothills.

Easy to get here
In the heart of the Sierra Foothills
El Dorado County is less than an hour from Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. Blending the magic of wine country with the drama of the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountain range, our region boasts remarkable landscapes that range from dramatic river canyons to steep hillsides.

No surprise, this wine resolution is our favorite! Supporting Local Wineries is easy in El Dorado. There are numerous ways to explore and experience our family-owned wineries, like:
🍷 Visiting local wineries for tastings and tours
🍇 Joining a wine club (or a few!)
🥂 Buying wines directly from the wineries
🥂 Attending local events – like El Dorado Passport, held every spring
📧 Signing up for winery newsletters

It’s time for another wine resolution, one that you can do from anywhere – Embrace Your Inner Autodidact Oenophile (AKA learn about wine).
🍷 Sure, wine is fun to drink, but did you know that the stories behind the varietals and wines you love can be both entertaining and informative? There are plenty of opportunities to learn, some from the comfort of your armchair!
🍇 Visit a local winery and chat with the winemaker or owner

Whether you call them low ABV or low alcohol wines, they’re a good alternative if you like to enjoy the flavor of wine without the kick, or are seeking something different after the holidays.
You’ll find several El Dorado wineries now offer low ABV options, all of which retain the mountain-grown character that defines our wines.

We’re leaning into our wine resolutions this month! 🍷 Our second one - Embrace "Less is More"🍷
We’re not fans of extremes, so instead of Dry January, consider quality over quantity. Enjoying a glass of wine with dinner or sharing a bottle with friends over appetizers can heighten the wine experience while creating memories.
Moderation allows you to mindfully enjoy a single glass of wine, savoring the moment and appreciating the science and artistry that went into its creation.

Sure, you’ve seen your fair share of resolutions already – but have you seen wine resolutions? The best part? They don’t require breaking in new shoes or learning a new skill.
🍇 Wine Resolution #1: Explore New Wines 🍇
Try a new-to-you wine! With 50 varietals grown in El Dorado, there are ample opportunities to explore lesser-known varietals such as Counoise or Tempranillo.
Feeling daring? Go natural (as in wines!), check out biodynamic and organic wines, or try a fortified wine like a Ruby Port.
